AT HOME TRAINING PRE SCHOOL (AGE 3 - 6)
To all Kenshikai Kids students we are so sorry that we have had to stop our classes due to COVID - 19 fears. We would like to reiterate that your children's health and safety is of the utmost importance to us. With this being said we would like our young karatekas to maintain a level of normalcy so we will be posting different training lessons for parents to follow at home with their children every week until classes are back to normal.
LESSON 1
Warm Up
We always start every lesson with a warm up. Our warm up for lesson one is done on the spot. There are 4 different running warm ups, all done for 30 seconds each.
They are...
Jog on the Spot
Knees Up
Kick Bum
Star Jumps
Stretches
There are many different stretches that we teach in our karate class but for this lesson if you could follow the picture attached to this section. Each stretch must be done for 5 seconds with each student counting in Japanese when stretching.
Japanese counting:
ichi
ni
san
shi
go

Fitness - Body Weight Exercise
Lesson #1's bodyweight exercise is walkies. Do a minimum of 5 - I would usualy do this in between the Syllabus training so that they can maintain their focus better.

Syllabus
Todays Syllabus training is kata #1 - Taikyokusono ichi - TAI -KYO -KUS - ONA - ICH. They will be doing the first 8 moves. This is still new to many of them so they may not get it right away. The way we would talk it through is...
Counts:
Touch your ear, block down.
Step and punch the bad guy.
Take your front leg, go to the other side, touch your ear, block down.
Step and punch the bad guy.
Take your front leg, put it in the middle, touch your ear, block down.
(The guy in the middle is really big so you have to punch him 3 times)
6. Step and punch, 1
7. Step and punch, 2
8. Step and punch, 3, say KIAI
(REPEAT THIS KATA TWICE)
Balance and Technique
In our classes we use hurdles and ladders to work on balance. For todays balance exercise students must jump over the hurdle and do 5 punches while counting from 1 - 5 in Japanese. At home alternatives to a hurdle could be a pillow or pillows or perhaps any box you find lying around.
End of Lesson
Thank you for training with us today. Keep it up young Karateka. OSU!

BALANCE WORKOUT:
Today we will do an activity they have done before. We usually use a ladder at home but you can create the lines of the ladder either using bits of rope, pillows, cones, tape or anything that you feel could work in the place of our ladder.
- Walk on hands in ladder
- 5 punches
- Walk back on hands

PAD WORK
(For anyone that have fighting pads, boxing bags etc then please use this. If not then once again you could use a pillow) (If the parents or sibling can hold this and our Karate kids must punch the "Pad" 5 times (counting in Japanese) then repeat this exercise.

END CLASS:
- End with a slow into front splits stretch (get them to count 1 - 5 in Japanese)
